Agnes Gonza Boyajiju was born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, Macedonia, to an ordinary merchant Nikola Boyaju. Mother Teresa also used to go to church with her mother and sister in childhood and sing religious songs, while when Mother Teresa was just 12 years old, she went on a religious journey, and only then she did the charity and social service of Jesus. In 1928, when Mother Teresa was just 18 years old, she decided to join the Sisters of Loreto, a community of nuns, and left her home. She was honored with many big awards for selflessly serving the poor, helpless people. The Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri in the year 1962 for her service to humanity and later she was also honored with the country's highest honor 'Bharat Ratna'.
